Poker Stories Needed
PAY: $750 - $2000+
Editor Seeks Poker Fiction: We are now accepting submissions for a book of short poker fiction. We will be featuring stories by established poker players and authors, as well as material from new writers, so this is an excellent opportunity to get in print. Full information about the book can be obtained by emailing us, but here are a few general guidelines for submission:
-This call for short poker fiction leaves a very broad range to work with. While the backbone of each story should be poker related, we are really looking for quality fiction.
-This is a poker book that will be bought, read and enjoyed by many different types of people, including players of all skill levels and non-players. However, our audience is the experienced poker player who is looking for an entertaining break from the usual books on theory and the grind at the tables. The poker information or scenes in your story, if there are any, must be lucid, believable, and technically correct. Our editorial staff reads thousands of submissions, and you have at most two strikes before we give up on your story. If you are going to write a poker scene, have other players read it through for mistakes and believability. If you know little about poker, and are having trouble writing such a scene, but you have a wonderful story, let us know and we will work through it.
-No bad beat stories. Despite my saying this, 50% of submissions will simply be bad beat stories. Maybe I should say it louder. NO BAD BEAT STORIES.
-Be original. Your average reader will have seen Rounders thirty times, has the World Poker Tour DVDs, a whole bookcase full of theory, and two sets of chips. He laughs when Phil Helmuth takes a beat, and uses "tilt" in everyday conversation. Give this person something new, entertaining and original. It can be comedy or tragedy. It can be romance, science fiction, Western or horror. It can be light and happy or it can be brutally, ugly and terrifying. Really, it can be
anything. The only requirements are that it is fresh and that it is a good story.
-No plagiarism. Obviously.
Submit your poker related short story as a Word attachment and in the body of an email along with a very brief letter of introduction. Or, if you want further information about the project, including information about payment and royalties, send you queries to the same email address. Authors whose stories are accepted for publication will receive between $750-2000 (or more) depending upon length and quality of submission. They will receive full credit and a byline in the book and the possibility of royalties depending upon sales. Contact
