ACROSS
THE SWEET GRASS HILLS, by Gail L. Jenner, was released in
Feb. 2001 by Creative Arts Book Co., of Berkeley, CA. A romantic-historical,
it is more than a love story. It is also the story of the Marias
Massacre, the little-known and infamous attack waged to subdue
the Pikuni Blackfeet in 1870. Rarely written about, it is an
important but tragic episode in American history.
Against
this backdrop, Red Eagle and Liza Ralston's story comes alive.
Thrown into the tumult, the two lovers are consequently caught
between two worlds and two dreams, battling enemies, seen and
unseen. And though Red Eagle and Liza Ralston are fictitious
characters, as are several lesser characters, the historical
figures, places, and major incidents are based upon extensive
historical research. Every
care has been taken to represent the events and details accurately.
Since
its release, ACROSS THE SWEET GRASS HILLS has garnered many
5-star reviews and was nominated for an historical reviewer's
choice award on Sime~gen in July. A trade paperback, it is available
through any bookstore, at bn.com or amazon.com, or it can be
ordered directly from Creative Arts Book Co. or the author.
ACROSS
THE SWEET GRASS HILLS won the 2002 WILLA Literary Award for
Original Paperback Fiction, from Women Writing the West. Also,
the novel recently placed as a finalist in a story-to-production
contest, hopefully to be accepted as material for a film!
