Marianne Viele, an archaeologist is researching the historic value of an old abandoned restaurant when she is startled by a New York City Police Officer. Pete Wolfson recognizes Mari as the woman who visits his dreams.

Neither is aware they have loved each other in many previous lives and that their present meeting was predestined by her tragic death in Colonial New Amsterdam in 1647, and his vow to find her again – “Sometime, Somewhere.”

The real Marie du Trieux, a lively colorful character from whom my husband and children are descended, inspired this story. Books on the history of Colonial New Amsterdam detail a number of Marie’s exploits and I’ve included many of them with the history of the times in the book.

Review: This novel was such a wonderful read. My only dilemma was whether to hurry and read it so that I could find out the ending or to slowly savor it to make it last longer. I know I will enjoy reading it again and again. - Marsha Markham.

As the Ponjohpur sails down the River Mersey and Liverpool disappears from view, Priscilla Thornton’s noble ideas of serving her country by accompanying children evacuees from Britain to Canada are beginning to wane – and well they might. The year is 1940 and Britain is at war.

When fate assigns Cilla’s childhood sweetheart Ted Evans, a signaler in the Royal Navy, to the Punjohpur, he is furious that Cilla has ignored his advice and is aboard.

Four nights later, the ship is torpedoed and in the chaos Cilla and Ted are separated.

Over the course of the next three months, Cilla faces raw terror, cold, hunger and captivity. Far from being a tale of failure and despair, this is the story of a young woman’s emotional growth through her own courage and determination to survive and to be reunited with Ted.

Review: This suspenseful novel combines adventure, romance and a lesson about never giving up. Written by an eyewitness to that period in history, the story comes alive with settings so real that you'll have no trouble believing. The vivid portrayal of events few have heard of, let alone experienced, creates a full and riveting page-turner. - Rosalie More

Jura MacLean Sherwood was born in London, England, but has traveled extensively. In 1940 she was evacuated to South Africa where she remained for over five years. While raising her four children, she lived in Alaska for nine years and on both coasts of the United States. Just prior to her husband retiring, they spent four years in Saudi Arabia. They now reside in Oregon where she draws on her thirty years of genealogical study and her life experiences to write historical fiction.
