Poets
United to Advance the Arts is a community based arts organization
founded by Jennifer Brown-Banks to increase arts awareness (beyond
academia) and provide a vehicle for exposure and expression to
both new and seasoned poets and creative artists. Established
in 1994, the group showcases local authors, conducts monthly poetry
readings, hosts self-publishing workshops, writers seminars,
retreats and networking events to support its mission.
The
core group consists of 6 self-publishing poets of various professional
backgrounds, who collectively perform in schools, coffee houses,
libraries, bookstores, churches and private parties, to audiences
of all ages. Additionally, Poets United facilitates readings
and literary events for other emerging artists, in efforts to
foster arts appreciation.
Poets
United attributes its popularity and longevity to the diverse
talents, backgrounds and performance styles of its comprising
members.
